Barwon Water’s headquarters on Ryrie Street has been transformed from a dated 1970s relic into a striking modern landmark in the heart of Geelong that at once complements and helps define the city’s architectural landscape.
The $32 million redevelopment harnessed sustainable design principles at every stage, retaining the building’s concrete and steel skeleton and recycling 80 percent of removed materials to create a local icon of smart 5-green star design that accommodates 350 staff.
The multi-function building incorporates a host of state-of-the-art green design features, from glass wall infills to its instantly recognisable sun shading facade and a stormwater-irrigated rain garden.
Open plan workspaces make the most of natural light and stunning city views, while exterior walking paths connect to the emerging Little Malop Street arts and culture precinct.
