The Malop Street Green Spine project is the realisation of the long-held vision for a vibrant linear park running all the way through central Geelong. It is also the key organising element of the Revitalising Central Geelong partnership.
The Green Spine will provide a botanical link between the City’s two existing green spaces, Johnstone Park and Eastern Gardens. It will be developed one block at a time along the six blocks of Malop Street Stage 1, between Moorabool Street and Yarra Street, is complete.
The project is designed to prioritise pedestrians and cyclists over cars, providing a safe and appealing active transport route across for the growing number of people in our City every day.
Modern, sustainable and socially supportive infrastructure is essential for meeting the needs of the growing central Geelong population.
Stage 2 of the Green Spine, between Gheringhap Street and Moorabool Street, will begin in 2020.
The Green Spine builds on Geelong’s reputation as a modern, liveable and vibrant UNESCO City of Design.
