Pedestrian access from Market Square to Westfield shopping centres across Malop Street is scheduled to return to the mid-block bluestone crossing this week. Machinery will be on site to dig and remove excavated materials and bring in new road base. There may be some short periods of hammering or cutting. Continuation of preparation work for the installation of underground growing cells (strata vaults) for new trees on north side. Continuation of sub-surface drains and construction for the base layer of the new road pavement. Continue laying kerb stones. Pedestrian access Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained during all trading hours. If access is required outside your normal trading hours, please contact the construction Site Manager with as much notice as possible, so access can be facilitated. Way-finding signage will be in place to direct pedestrians.
Malop Street will continue to be closed to all vehicle and cycling traffic between Moorabool and Yarra streets until completion in mid-year. Green Spine – Trader support initiatives
Seniors Construction Tours Following the popularity of the Kids Construction Tours during the school holidays, we are holding Seniors Construction Tours at 10:00am on Tuesday 8 and Tuesday 15 May. The construction site manager will guide tour groups around the site, explaining what the workers are doing and what the street will look like when it’s finished. The event is free, but as the purpose is to benefit businesses in the area, participants are encouraged to enjoy an activity, lunch or the opportunity to shop while they are in central Geelong. Bookings can be made via Eventbrite.
Car parking passes and coffee vouchers
Additional car parking passes have been distributed to traders in the works zone recently and with this update, we will be distributing more car parking passes along with more free coffee vouchers for Halong Café and Rook:Sri Lankan Fusion for you to distribute to customers at your discretion.
